We provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people. We also campaign for the rights of people with visual impairment, educate the public about eye care and fund eye disease research. We have been expertly breeding and training guide dogs for more than 75 years, providing many thousands to blind and partially-sighted people of all ages and from all walks of life.

We also deliver confidence-building rehabilitation services to adults, young people and children – including long cane mobility training and communication and daily living skills.

    Puppy Walker
  • About the Volunteer Role
    Puppy walking is a rewarding role and is so important in the development of a future guide dog. Volunteer puppy walkers care for a puppy in their homes for just over a year, getting the future guide dog used to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Puppy walkers give their puppies a firm foundation for later training and life with a visually impaired person. The role involves, caring for your puppy, training basic obedience commands and assisting it to socialise in as many different environments as possible. There is ongoing support and guidance available from your Puppy Walking Supervisor. Also, Guide dogs supplies food and meets vet's bills for the puppies. You must: -Be at home for most of the day -Be over 18 years old -Not have children under 3 -Have access to relief area -Daily access to car travel -Take your puppy on routine trips -Work within the association's guidelines.
