Volunteer Dementia Group Transport Passenger Assistant

We are an independent local charity, who aims to reduce isolation, loneliness and improve quality of life for local people in Kirklees.  We operate 20 anti-loneliness projects which includes community transport, drop-in centres, social activity groups, dementia groups, and community centres – across Kirklees.  Find out more about us at www.ddc.org.uk , @DDCprojects on Facebook and @TimeTogether1 on Twitter, or come and chat with us at one of our bases.  Our growing team of around 100, includes volunteers, work-placements, student-placements and employed staff – all benefit from direct support and training (both online and in person) plus expenses and social activities.

    Volunteer Dementia Group Transport Passenger Assistant
  • About the Volunteer Role
    Make a real difference to local people by helping to transport our members to their Dementia Activity Groups in and around Kirklees. This is a non-driving role. You will require patience and be willing to learn how best to support people with Dementia. You may be required to assist passengers with boarding and alighting the vehicles, fastening seatbelts, supporting passengers to their front door. We provide expenses, training and support for our volunteer team, including refresher training if needed. Safeguarding clearance required - 2 personal character references and free DBS check if you do not already have a current certificate. Note, our Dementia groups are based in Kirkburton, Almondbury, Heckmondwike, Huddersfield and Emley. Our members are transported from their homes to the venue for 10am and depart for home at 3pm.
