Do you have a spare room for a destitute Refugee or Asylum Seeker?

All that we ask of our hosts is that they can provide a clean, safe and welcoming place for their guests to stay and that their basic needs are met.

A guest might stay for a few days on a sofa bed in the living room, or for a few months in their own bedroom. Every host and space available is different so we use the information we have to find the best possible match. We also recognise that circumstances for hosts may change, we are flexible and can adapt to your needs.

We receive referrals for guests from our trusted partners and organisations such as DASH, British Red Cross and Refugee Council, who know the guests well. The Referrer will work alongside a guest during the placement and support them with moving on from hosting, as our support is only temporary. We triage referrals and carry out checks, to ensure that guests are suitable for hosting with us.

As a Host, you will be supported by a Home Visitor in your area as well as the Placement Team. We are approachable for any questions, worries or concerns before, during and after the placement.

A host is not expected to take on any case work, or have any responsibility for the progression of a guest’s asylum case.  This will be done usually by the agency which has referred the guest - who will be best placed to do it.

We have a network of amazing hosts throughout the UK, who would be happy to share their experiences of hosting with us. One of our hosts said, ' We hosted a refugee from Syria and learnt so much. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our Refugees at Home guest and he's become a great friend. We mustn't underestimate the power of human connections right now' LW-Host

We are operating under strict Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance in line with governments guidelines, to ensure the safety of our hosts and guests. We will provide you with further information upon enquiry or application.

Covid-Safe Volunteering

If you are volunteering in lockdown, please make sure that you are staying safe and are up-to-date with the current rules and guidance.

If possible you should be staying at home and should volunteer from home. If your volunteering is essential and has to be done outside of the home (for e.g. if you are volunteering in a foodbank or are supporting people in your community) please make sure that you are following the guidelines to stay safe.

If you are looking for a volunteering role, you could search for Covid-19 roles or volunteering from home roles on our I Want To Volunteer
