Volunteer Dementia Support Assistant - Various Locations

Time Together and The Denby Dale Centre is an independent local charity, who aims to relieve isolation & loneliness and improve quality of life, for local people in Kirklees.  We usually operate 20 anti-loneliness projects including a charity shop, community transport, social activity groups and dementia groups – across Kirklees, many of our projects have been adapted due to Covid-19.  Find out more about us at www.ddc.org.uk , @DDCprojects on Facebook and @TimeTogether1 on Twitter, or come and chat with us at one of our bases.  Our growing team of volunteers, work-placements, student-placements and employed staff – all benefit from direct support and training (both online and in person) plus expenses and social activities.

  • About the Volunteer Role
    * SOCIAL ACTIVITIES ARE CURRENTLY ON HOLD DURING COVID-19, HOWEVER WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS FOR WHEN ACTIVITIES RESUME * Make a real difference to local people by working alongside employed Dementia Support Workers and our Dementia Champions. This volunteer role is what you make it. You could help run activities like brain-games, skittles, arts & crafts, cooking, ten-pin bowling, pamper days or perhaps you have a particular skill or knowledge you would like to share. Socialising and talking with the members is always at the core of what we do. Our sessions are five hours long and consist of morning socialising & activity / lunch / afternoon socialising & activity. Once a month an outing is arranged, for example bowling, lunch out, Tropical World, Scarborough seaside, Blackpool Illuminations, animal farms. You can commit to weekly sessions, every other week, once a month - with good communication and notice we can provide flexibility to suit. Our sessions are Mon to Fri (10am to 3pm) across Kirklees: Monday - Kirkburton, Tuesday - Almondbury Wednesday - Heckmondwike Thursday - Aspley/Huddersfield Friday - Emley This is a regulated role, 2 character references are required and we provide a free DBS check if you don't already have a current certificate. Training and support is provided free, and expenses are included.
