Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust supports children and young people facing challenges to their emotional well-being and mental health.  We are a charity and work as part of the Thriving Kirklees Partnership, to support over three thousand local children every year.  Services we provide include telephone support to families and professionals, counselling, mental health support, mentors , family support volunteers, and confidence building group activities to help children grow strong and well.  Young people rate our services 9 out of 10, and they tell us that we have really made a difference to their lives.  Volunteers are highly valued within our organisation, we have the Kirklees Quality Assurance Award, we offer a full training package, and regular supervision and support.

Opportunities Overview
  • Volunteer Role Title
    Volunteer Mentor
  • About the Volunteer Role
Volunteer Mentors are required to provide a flexible, practical and informal one to one support for young people who are experiencing an unsettled period in their life. Mentors get to know the young person, act as a positive role model and support them with the difficulties they may be facing. We are still actively recruiting for Volunteer Mentors during the covid-19 restrictions. Recruitment and training is happening We are continuing to recruit to Recruitment and meetings are currently being carried out by video link (Zoom) online to keep everyone safe. Volunteers are helping to support young people by phone and video calls. We are particularly encouraging applications from male volunteers, as these are under-represented in our service. Many of the young people we support require a positive male role model. If you are able to get on well with young people and are a good listener, we can teach you the rest! The role is supported by funding from the National Lottery. We are ideally looking for people who can offer 1.5 hours per week for up to 12 months.
