Here at Kirkwood Hospice we provide a range of care and support aimed at improving the lives of people affected by any life-limiting illness in our local communities. We are extremely fortunate to have the support and commitment of over 800 dedicated volunteers who work alongside staff in a variety of roles and departments. The Kirkwood Team work tirelessly to support people to improve their quality of life; remain as independent as possible; and maintain their dignity until the very end. Families and loved-ones are also supported during the illness and in bereavement.

We couldn’t do what we do without our loyal volunteers! We aim to offer the very best volunteering experience, including a comprehensive induction; an annual education & training programme; long-service awards; and volunteer & staff celebration events. We’d love to hear from you if you can spare some of your time to help Kirkwood care and extend its reach to others that could benefit from the services we provide.

As a Kirkwood volunteer, you will be helping us to provide care to people from your own community who are affected by a life-limiting illness. A little of your time can make a massive difference to what we can achieve! Is it your time to make a difference? We hope to hear from you soon!

  • About the Volunteer Role
By volunteering for Kirkwood Hospice as a Driver's Mate, you'll have the opportunity to meet lots of new people, get out on the open road and support the work of our retail team, who help to raise over £2 million for patient care each year. As a Driver’s Mate you don’t need to be able to drive but you will need to be enthusiastic and physically fit. Driver’s Mates volunteer to work on the retail vans to assist the driver in carrying out tasks efficiently and effectively, with the minimum of fuss. Whether you are looking to volunteer for one day or multiple days, we would be delighted to hear from you. The retail vans start at around 8.15am from our Hospice Site in Dalton, and our furniture van starts around 8.45 from our furniture shop in Moldgreen.
