Here at Kirkwood Hospice we provide a range of care and support aimed at improving the lives of people affected by any life-limiting illness in our local communities. We are extremely fortunate to have the support and commitment of over 800 dedicated volunteers who work alongside staff in a variety of roles and departments. The Kirkwood Team work tirelessly to support people to improve their quality of life; remain as independent as possible; and maintain their dignity until the very end. Families and loved-ones are also supported during the illness and in bereavement.
We couldn’t do what we do without our loyal volunteers! We aim to offer the very best volunteering experience, including a comprehensive induction; an annual education & training programme; long-service awards; and volunteer & staff celebration events. We’d love to hear from you if you can spare some of your time to help Kirkwood care and extend its reach to others that could benefit from the services we provide.
As a Kirkwood volunteer, you will be helping us to provide care to people from your own community who are affected by a life-limiting illness. A little of your time can make a massive difference to what we can achieve! Is it your time to make a difference? We hope to hear from you soon!
Volunteer Role TitleShop Engagement Volunteer
About the Volunteer RoleAs a Shop Engagement Volunteer you will support one of our Shop Managers and Volunteer Services team to build links and run events in the local community to recruit volunteers in our shops. Without Volunteers, our 21 shops cannot raise the vital funds we need to provide care to patients and their families. In this role you will work with the Shop Manager to identify volunteer gaps in the shop. You will then support the Shop Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator in recruitment campaigns, based on the individual shop needs, using your local knowledge to promote the hospice and its retail volunteering opportunities in the local community. You will help to organise recruitment events, help to run taster sessions in the shop and talk to customers to encourage them to volunteer with Kirkwood Hospice. When not actively engaged in volunteer recruitment events you can support the shop team with sorting donations, serving customers and making sure the shop looks its best. We are looking for enthusiastic people who are good at communication with a good knowledge of your local community and the ability to build links with local groups. You will be based at one of our 21 shops across Kirklees. Ideally you would be able to offer at least half a day per week.
