Helpline Support Worker

We aim to provide specialised, professional, free support and counselling to men and women over the age of 13 living in the Kirklees and Calderdale area, who are experiencing / have experienced sexual or domestic violence / abuse.

Our mission is to promote greater understanding of the issues surrounding sexual and domestic abuse and endeavour to educate the public to challenge myths and reduce incidences of violence in the general population. Committed to improving existing provision within the local area for survivors.

Our objectives:
– Provide a free service.
– Provide specialised and confidential advice, information and telephone support to survivors.
– Provide a specialist, confidential counselling service within the guidelines of the British Association of Counselling code of ethics.
– Provide crisis counselling.
– Express the commitment to self-determination, choice and empowerment of survivors of sexual violence.
– Liaise and network with a variety of voluntary and statutory agencies with an aim to increase awareness around the issues of sexual and domestic violence.
– Develop and maintain links with organisations whose objectives are similar or assist meeting the aims and objectives of their service.

  • About the Volunteer Role
    Helpline staff offer emotional support, advice and guidance. The helpline is the point for referrals into all of our services. Volunteers need to have good listening skills and must be able to complete appropriate in-house training in order to provide relevant information and support to callers, we also offer support via email, text and webchat. If successful you will need to complete mandatory training and a 3 month trial process. This strict process is to protect you and our clients, as preparation for what you may hear. Although this may seem daunting, it is also very rewarding.. There will also be ongoing training throughout the time you are with us, supervision and clinical supervision. There is other opportunities once experienced, such as face to face support, supporting our Independent Sexual Violence Advisers, Awareness raising among others. Kirklees RASAC can offer the chance to develop specialised skills and knowledge which can be used in direct work with survivors or support services within the organisation. Volunteers will complete in-house training to ensure they are skilled and competent enough to work within the centre. We offer reimbursement of genuine travel expenses. Regular supervision and group supervision forms part of the support available for volunteers. Training for this post begins in May 2020 as we have just had our intake for this year.
