Volunteer Building's Maintenance Person

Huddersfield Samaritans has been helping people for over 45 years. We received our first call in September 1968 at our branch in Trinity Street. Today you will find us in the centre of Huddersfield, where we provide confidential emotional support to people from all over the area.

    Volunteer Building's Maintenance Person
  • About the Volunteer Role
Huddersfield Samaritans is a volunteer lead organisation that offers emotional support in both the local community and nationally as part of Samaritans. Our building in the middle of Huddersfield town centre is our base from where we coordinate our activities, carry out training and most importantly provide emotional support over the phone and to people who drop-in. The three-storey building has to function 24/7 and as such there are plenty of jobs that require keeping on top of as well. We also rent shop premises in Marsh which requires similar upkeep. The role would be suitable for someone who has maintenance or janitorial experience or even a DIY enthusiast. As long as you don't mind trying your hand at whatever odd job comes about we would love to hear from you. We are looking for a competent person to look after our branch building in the centre of town. Responsibilities would include making sure the building stays in a fit state, being available to sort out issues in a timely manner and maintaining a budget. You will also be expected to obtain quotes for larger jobs and supervise and coordinate with contractors. The charity trustees also meet once every two months and it would be useful if you are able to attend these meetings to update trustees with the state of the building. This is a flexible role with no fixed hours. You can volunteer as many hours as you find suitable to carry out your duties. We provide free parking, all expenses covered as well as unlimited teas and biscuits. On top of that you become a member of a large social group with regular social events and get togethers. If this is a role you are interested in and would like some further information please get in touch. We would be happy to discuss the role further to see if it suitable for you.
