Allotment Volunteer

Growing works is a small charity working in Kirklees to nurture healthy lives and communities outdoors, delivering projects since 2009 and achieving charitable status in 2015.  We work with families and individuals with various needs who feel isolated and marginalized, supporting them to make positive changes in their lives.  By connecting people with their environment and providing supportive activities we can help to improve health and wellbeing and encourage their engagement with their community.

We work outdoors all year round with activities including, gardening, allotment site development, outdoor therapy, bushcraft, exploration, cooking and much more.  Our projects look to use the outdoor environment to help get vulnerable people more active and connected, supporting each other and delivering healthier people and places.

    Allotment Volunteer
  • About the Volunteer Role
We have a number of opportunities to help out at our Wakefield Road Allotment site (Dalton) on Tuesday mornings. There is scope to share your skills or learn new whilst helping to develop the site and grow food to share. The role can also involve helping others to engage with sessions for the benefit of their health and wellbeing. The long term vision for this allotment is to develop as an outdoor therapy centre providing a relaxed meeting space with activities that connect people to the environment and encourage healthy lifestyles. Our Volunteers support gardening, heritage crafts, construction, peer support, and community events. All the produce grown on site is either cooked and shared during sessions or can be taken away by participants and volunteers. If you'd like to get involved then we'd love to hear from you!
