Carers Count Volunteer Men’s Group Worker

We provide services to unpaid carers who look after a family member or friend who can’t manage on their own by;  providing advice and information , running groups and activities, providing support and help carers to support each other, help carers have a voice and be heard, provide training, help to raise awareness of carers rights and issues.

  • About the Volunteer Role
    Carers Count is looking for group work volunteers to work alongside carers and staff who deliver various groups. The groups are headed up by the Group Co-ordinator. We a group for people with a mental health diagnosis where we take part in various activities to break down social barriers. What does it involve?... and how much time does it take? The role includes assisting the group workers to run the group as well as helping set up the room and clean away, talking to the attendees who may want a one to one chat and taking part in the group yourself if appropriate. The group is weekly taking place every Tuesday evening between 16:30 and 18:30 in Dewsbury town centre although there are times where we organise trips out to various locations which can take place any time in the week depending on the availability of the attendees and staff. We are looking for someone who is friendly, welcoming, willing and reliable who communicates well with Men with Mental Health problems. Being a good listener helps. It can often involve setting up a room, making hot drinks, listening to someone, anticipating needs, helping staff and attendees plan future events and activities and being mindful of health and safety especially around people who have disabilities. Out of pocket expenses are paid on production of receipts.
