Volunteer Towpath Ranger - Huddersfield Narrow Canal

We are a charity that cares for 2000 miles of waterways. We believe life is better by water and we’re working with volunteers and communities across England and Wales to transform canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. We know this will bring wellbeing opportunities to millions. Our work involves not only looking after our waterways, but promoting them widely to the eight million plus people who have waterways on their doorstep so that many more people benefit from our free, accessible and local source of wellbeing.

Opportunities Overview
  • Volunteer Role Title
Volunteer Towpath Ranger - Huddersfield Narrow Canal
  • About the Volunteer Role

Volunteer Towpath Rangers are the eyes and ears of the local waterway, a friendly face who is happy engaging with all users of our towpaths. As a ranger you will help make sure the towpaths are an enjoyable place for everyone; reporting any issues you see, towpath gardening and light maintenance as well as talking to the towpath users about the Trust's work. It's a chance to have a positive impact on your local waterway and help people appreciate it. Alongside this we are also looking for Volunteers who would like to be trained on how to operate the locks, learn about water control and offer help to single-handed boating customers navigating the canal. This opportunity is flexible and would suit someone who has a few hours to spare each week with a friendly manner and can-do attitude. This is a great way to meet new people, get fit and see great wildlife! The Trust will provide clothing and equipment and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses. Our Volunteer Towpath Rangers receive an induction and on-going training as needed.
