Befriend a young carer

This role involved meeting with a young person once a fortnight, to give them time away from home to do something fun! Barnardo’s work with young people aged 5-18 who care for a family member who has a mental health problem, drugs/alcohol problem, or a long term illness. You will meet the young person at their home, take them out for an activity (minimum of 2 hours) and then drop them off at home afterwards.

This role is for anyone interested in working with young people.

Date and details

Volunteers must be willing and able to travel across the area to various activities, picking up and dropping off young people. Driving is not essential if you’re comfortable using public transport.
Reasonable expenses for each activity are reimbursed.
Must be available evenings and weekends.
This role will require a DBS check.
