Speech Therapy Volunteer

What: Speech Therapy Volunteer working 1-1 with people who’ve had a stroke or brain injury

When: 1 hour plus travel fortnightly or monthly.  Hours are flexible depending on how much time you have available and when.

Where: Across Kirklees (the project is Yorkshire-wide)

SpeakwithIT use volunteers to work 1-1 with people with aphasia (speech loss and comprehension problems following a stroke or brain injury) and use a specialist computer programme to help them improve their verbal skills.  They would like to recruit more volunteers in Kirklees who would be able to go into someone’s home on a regular basis (fortnightly and monthly) and work with them for at least a year.

Volunteers need to be patient and good with people, and will be given full training on how to run a therapy session and how to use the programme.  It would help if they had their own transport and could commit to at least 1 hour plus travel per month for a minimum of 12 months. They will also need to have a DBS check. The role is flexible and can fit around your other work and time commitments/

Volunteers can have a huge impact on the lives of people who are struggling to socialise and be understood, and will hopefully form meaningful friendships with their clients.
