Homestart = parents supporting other parents  (great stories here)
When a parent can’t cope with what life throws at them, their children suffer. Homestart volunteers are people from all walks of life who step in to offer support. Training for new volunteers starts 17 Jan. It’s 9.30am to 2.30pm for seven weeks (but not in half term). Contact: 01484 421925

Reading Friends = listening to children in a local school
Being a supportive, interested listener once a week can help local children enjoy reading. Four short training sessions will help you know what to do. Volunteering in Sport = skills, ideas and confidence to help out with sports
This course covers useful skills for working or volunteering in sport, such as how to work well with people from different backgrounds, keeping people safe and creating a great atmosphere. It’s six sessions, from 1-4pm on Monday afternoons in Mirfield. Starts on 29 Jan, last session is 12 March. Find out more and get booked on: or 01484 234153

Talk English Friends = helping local people to improve their English
Two afternoon sessions about providing one-to-one support to people with little or no English. This training is the first step to volunteering as a Talk English Friend, offering practical help to people finding day to day tasks hard because English is not their first language. Read more here.
