Day 6: Help out at a food bank

helen-in-the-pantry-e1410354164608-300x202Food is a big focus at this time of year, but for many people it’s a big focus every day because they don’t have enough to eat.

The Pantry needs help to provide emergency food and support to people in need in North Kirklees. Could you spare some time to help out?

Background
In winter many families have to choose between heating and eating. Debt, budgets being stretched, benefits delayed or sanctioned…whatever the reason food banks can help when people have hit a crisis. Without them many people, including hundreds of local children, would go hungry.

The Fusion Giving Foodbank  is based at Floor 2, Empire House, Wakefield Old Road, Dewsbury, WF12 8DJ

And is open 10am to 4pm

They are happy to receive donations of dried food, but have a particular demand for tinned food – soup/meat dinners etc

They also collect and distribute toiletries such as shower gel, toothpaste and shampoo.

Practical Considerations

Tasks: Sorting donations (checking dates, organising in store).

Making up food parcels.

Collecting donations from schools, churches etc (will need own transport).

Location: Floor 2, Empire House, Wakefield Old Road, Dewsbury, WF12 8DJ
