Care 2 Listen?

Do you have a few hours a month to help support a vulnerable young person?
Could you make a difference in their life?

In Kirklees, there are many children and young people in the care of the local authority who would benefit from a positive relationship with a trusted, responsible adult.

By becoming an Independent Visitor, you can help give a looked after child or young person regular independent adult guidance and support as well as having some fun along the way.

You will receive training to help prepare you for this role, together with support from your peers and a dedicated Independent Visitor Scheme Coordinator.

You will be reimbursed for ‘out of pocket’ and travel expenses when taking a young person out on an activity.

What are we looking for?

No formal qualifications are required but patience, flexibility, determination to make a difference, and a non- judgmental attitude are essential.

We are looking to recruit adults (18-75 for insurance purposes) who have a genuine interest in supporting children and young people; who can offer their time and long-term commitment to be a consistent, reliable and trustworthy person in a young persons’ life.

Currently, Male volunteers and volunteers from minority ethnic communities are particularly under represented on the scheme so we would particularly welcome expressions of interest from these people.

Practical Considerations

The Independent Visitor Scheme covers all areas of Kirklees. Some young people may live in other areas such as Leeds, Sheffield and Greater Manchester.

Recruitment process: Application Form, Enhanced DBS, Informal Discussion, Interview, References, Training.
