2017 – Meet new people

Hospitals are always in the headlines…

Why not help out at your local hospital? Age UK are keen to recruit a team of volunteers to help people have a safe and stress-free journey home from Huddersfield Royal Hospital. After people have left the ward they can often be waiting several hours whilst arrangements are made. Friendly volunteers are needed to work with the hospital staff to make sure people know what’s going on; pass on any concerns about going home; and easing their anxieties about going home.
If you could commit for three-hour sessions, not necessarily weekly, you’d be helping take the pressure off very busy hospital staff.

Become a budding barista!

Volunteers are needed for the Lions Club Coffee Bar at Huddersfield Magistrates Court.  The bar is run on a rota basis over a three-hour shift, Mon to Thurs 9am to 12noon or 12noon to 3pm and Fri 9am to 12noon. This is a great opportunity to meet people from all walks of life in a friendly coffee bar by serving drinks and snacks, and being there for those who are anxious about their experience at the court.

Ruddi’s Retreat provide holidays for children who have life-shortening illnesses. Their friendly Cafe is a not for profit organisation that is used to raise the funds to cover the annual running costs for the caravans and lodge.  They’re looking for volunteers to serve food and chat to customers; make drinks and generally help out around the cafe. Training is provided and travel expenses are refunded. Ideally, they would like volunteers who can be there for a four-hour session.
