2017 – Learn something new

Want to stimulate your brain and develop your skills? Here are some ways to do just that:

Help children,  young people and adults to improve their reading

Could you be the person that offers one-to-one support to help struggling readers to catch up? If so Yorkshire-based charity Reading Matters would love to hear from you. They offer a day’s training to start and ongoing support. call 01274 692219 or email info@readingmatters.org.uk

Reading Friends asks volunteers to help out in local primary schools. Call 01484 234153 or email helen.littlewood@kirklees.gov.uk

Help people learn English and get more involved in their community

As a Talk English Friend (after training!) you will be matched with people with little or no English who you will meet with regularly to practise English.  You will arrange to meet your Friend at “Conversation Café’s” in local libraries and community venues each week. Click here to find out more and fill in an application.

Help make a theatre group happen for young people

Develop your skills while you help young people to enjoy taking part in the Lawrence Batley Youth Theatre in Huddersfield. Sessions involve games, warm-ups and of course performance. Click here to see a short film about what goes on. Call 01484 484 415 or email volunteer@thelbt.org Opportunity is for over 18s.
