Four fab ways to give time to care for our environment:
Love your canal!
A bit of wildness that runs through the heart of our communities, canals need some TLC. Towpath Taskforce teams are a flexible way to fit volunteering into a busy lifestyle.
The Taskforce on the Huddersfield Broad Canal meet on the second Friday of the month from 10am-1pm (next one 10th Feb). Tasks include painting, litter clearance, cutting back vegetation and planting. The meeting place varies so go here and register to find out where to meet.
Help make a happy Holme for wildlife
Get your hands dirty for a good cause. Help ‘River 2015’ to restore the River Holme and its tributaries to a clean, accessible and appealing haven for wildlife, people and businesses.
Saturday work party 21st Jan – from 10 am to 12 noon, meet at Sands, more details here
Help to grow people in the outdoors!
Growing Works needs help running its Sprout sessions – outdoor activities for families and children with additional needs. Hide and seek in the woods, coo.king on a campfire and craft in the great outdoors. Based at Honley, they run Sprout sessions on Saturdays at Northorpe Hall and their own at Hope Bank Works. Check out a lovely 50 second film of a session here and their Facebook page here.
They also would love you to help with Bud – therapeutic gardening sessions for vulnerable adults and their carers. Getting hands on in the garden can give carers a break whilst having fun with those they care for. Click here for a link to send them your details or call Rachel on 01484 606506.
Charity shops – recycling pioneers!
Charity shops are the original recyclers. Many of them need help and are happy if you can offer as little as half a day. Shops needing extra hands at the moment include:
- Sense in Huddersfield
- Fusion Housing Charity Shop in Mirfield
